A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the development of additional instruction that may be |
|
used by a public school after administration of all state-required |
|
assessment instruments for the school year. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 28.0162 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 28.0162. ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTION OFFERED AFTER |
|
ADMINISTRATION OF ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS. (a) For each topic |
|
described by Subsection (b), the State Board of Education shall |
|
develop and make available to each school district or |
|
open-enrollment charter school additional instruction intended for |
|
use during the period of a school year occurring after the |
|
completion of the administration of all assessment instruments |
|
required under Section 39.023 for that school year. |
|
(b) The topics for the additional instruction must include: |
|
(1) personal financial literacy; |
|
(2) computer coding; and |
|
(3) cybersecurity. |
|
(c) The State Board of Education may contract with a public |
|
or private entity to develop the additional instruction under this |
|
section. |
|
(d) A school district or open-enrollment charter school may |
|
elect to use all or any part of the additional instruction developed |
|
under this section during the period described by Subsection (a). |
|
SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2020, the State Board |
|
of Education shall develop and make available to each school |
|
district or open-enrollment charter school the additional |
|
instruction required under Section 28.0162, Education Code, as |
|
added by this Act. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
