A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to tenant liability insurance. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 92, Property Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 92.3516 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 92.3516. REQUIREMENT OF TENANT LIABILITY INSURANCE. A |
|
|
landlord shall require a tenant to obtain or maintain during the |
|
|
lease term liability insurance in an amount not less than $100,000 |
|
|
for each occurrence of damage to the landlord's property caused by |
|
|
the tenant as a condition of the tenant's lease with the landlord. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 92.3516, Property Code, as added by this |
|
|
Act, applies only to a lease entered into or renewed on or after the |
|
|
effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
