A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature |
|
to exempt from ad valorem taxation by one or more political |
|
subdivisions of this state property located near a public school or |
|
within a municipal management district that is owned for the |
|
purpose of building low-income housing. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 1-w to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 1-w. (a) The legislature by general law may exempt |
|
from ad valorem taxation by one or more political subdivisions of |
|
this state property located near a public school or within a |
|
municipal management district created under general or special law |
|
to accomplish the purposes of Sections 52 and 52-a, Article III, and |
|
Section 59, Article XVI, of this constitution that is owned by a |
|
person for the purpose of building low-income housing on the |
|
property. |
|
(b) The legislature may provide additional eligibility |
|
requirements for an exemption authorized by this section. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2019. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the |
|
legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation by one or more |
|
political subdivisions of this state property located near a public |
|
school or within a municipal management district that is owned for |
|
the purpose of building low-income housing." |
