A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment prohibiting the use of state |
|
|
funds to pay for the obligations of a local public retirement |
|
|
system. |
|
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 67, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is |
|
|
amended by adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c-1) This state is not liable for any debts or other |
|
|
obligations of a retirement system described by Subsection (c) of |
|
|
this section. The legislature may not appropriate money to a |
|
|
retirement system described by Subsection (c) of this section to |
|
|
pay any debts or other obligations of the retirement system. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2019. |
|
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment prohibiting the |
|
|
legislature from appropriating state money to a local public |
|
|
retirement system to pay any debts or other obligations of the |
|
|
retirement system." |
