R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Phil Cory retired as the mayor of Tatum on January |
|
14, 2019, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to |
|
reflect on his exemplary record of achievement; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joining the city council in 2004, Phil Cory was |
|
elected mayor in 2012; during his tenure, he played a vital role in |
|
the construction of the Sherman R. Smith Community Center and in |
|
welcoming many new businesses and industries into the community; |
|
additionally, he has been active with the Texas Municipal League, |
|
serving Region 15 as president and as state director, and he further |
|
benefited the organization as a member of its Legislative Policy |
|
Committee on Annexation and Regulation Development; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Cory holds an associate of applied science |
|
degree from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, a bachelor's |
|
degree from Southern Nazarene University, a master's degree from |
|
Nazarene Theological Seminary, and a doctor of ministry degree from |
|
Phillips University; prior to moving to Tatum in 2000, he was a |
|
missionary in Costa Rica and Chile, and he served as a pastor in |
|
Oklahoma, Kansas, and New Jersey and as a funeral director and |
|
embalmer in Dallas and Fort Worth; in all his endeavors, he enjoys |
|
the love and support of his wife, Joy; and |
|
WHEREAS, A committed champion of his community, Phil Cory may |
|
reflect with pride on all that he has accomplished in its behalf and |
|
take satisfaction in knowing that his contributions will continue |
|
to benefit area Texans for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Phil Cory on his retirement as |
|
mayor of Tatum and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Cory as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
