R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Austin County Commissioner
  Douglas W. King on December 17, 2018, at the age of 49, is a
  profound loss to his many loved ones and friends and to the
  community he served; and
         WHEREAS, Doug King was born in Bellville on April 13, 1969, to
  Dennis and Carolyn King; he grew up in a large family that included
  his siblings, Pat, Brian, and Mary, and he developed a strong work
  ethic from an early age while serving as a ranch hand and helping
  out with the family business, King Construction; a 1987 graduate of
  Brazos High School, he also played sports and became an Eagle Scout,
  and he went on to finish college while holding a full-time job; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. King continued in the footsteps of several
  generations of his family by learning the construction trade, and
  he followed the example of his grandfather and uncle, who were
  county commissioners, and his father, a judge, in entering public
  service; he was sworn into office as the Austin County commissioner
  for Precinct 4 on January 1, 2010, and was preparing to begin his
  third term as a commissioner; and
         WHEREAS, Above all else, Commissioner King's proudest
  achievement and greatest joy was becoming a father; he fiercely
  loved his three children, Marisa, Racy, and Symantha, and happily
  found time in his busy schedule to be a mentor, coach, chauffeur,
  and cheerleader at their various activities; after the tragic
  passing of his wife, Lori King, he made sure that his children were
  never at a loss for support, encouragement, and affection and took
  to tasks like braiding his daughters' hair with his trademark
  industriousness; and
         WHEREAS, Devotion to family and community formed the
  foundation on which Douglas King built his life, and although his
  death brings immense sadness, he leaves behind a legacy that will
  forever be treasured; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Douglas W. King and
  extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his
  children, Marisa, Racy, and Symantha; to his parents, Dennis and
  Carolyn King; to his brothers, Pat King and his wife, Jennifer, and
  Brian King and his wife, Stacy; to his sister, Mary Staff, and her
  husband, Doug; to his niece, Avery King; to his aunt, Linda Melnar;
  to his uncles, James King, Chris King, and Karl King; and to his
  other relatives and numerous friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Doug King.
