R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Colorado City lost an esteemed
  community leader with the death of the Honorable Jim Baum on
  December 16, 2018, at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, The son of James and Edith Baum, Jim Baum was born on
  September 25, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa; he graduated from Abilene
  High School in 1954 and served his country as a member of the
  National Guard; he subsequently played minor league baseball in the
  Pittsburgh Pirates organization for two years; and
         WHEREAS, After returning to Texas, Mr. Baum began working for
  the KCRS radio station, and he went on to manage KBYG in Big Spring
  for 17 years before buying KVMC/KAUM radio in Colorado City and
  becoming "the voice of Mitchell County"; a popular figure in
  Colorado City, he assumed the office of mayor in 1987 and continued
  to hold that position until 2001; he was later reelected, serving as
  mayor from 2013 until the time of his passing; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Baum wed Margaret Stewart in 1960, and they
  shared a rewarding marriage that spanned three decades before her
  passing; Mr. Baum was fortunate enough to find love again with the
  former Linda Sample, and the couple exchanged wedding vows on
  February 14, 1992; Mr. Baum took great pride in his children, Jim,
  Bill, Doug, and Laura, and he was further blessed with nine
  grandchildren, Richard, Nicole, Bailey, Graham, Grace, Kate,
  Vanessa, Delany, and Pecos; and
         WHEREAS, The author of several books, Mayor Baum also enjoyed
  taking care of rescue dogs, collecting baseball cards, and rooting
  for his favorite sports teams, the Texas Rangers and the Dallas
  Cowboys; and
         WHEREAS, Jim Baum earned the admiration of all who knew him
  with his exceptional warmth and humility, and he leaves behind a
  record of good works that will resonate in the Colorado City
  community for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mayor Jim Baum and
  extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mayor Jim
  Baum.
