R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For a half century, Leónides G. Hernandez of Austin
  has rendered outstanding service to the League of United Latin
  American Citizens; and
         WHEREAS, León Hernandez joined LULAC in 1969, and through the
  organization, he operated a SER job training center for people
  seeking to overcome barriers to employment; in addition, he
  organized four LULAC councils, including the first all-female
  council; today, he serves as director of LULAC District 12, and he
  is president of LULAC Council No. 22355; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Hernandez has worked tirelessly
  to expand opportunities for residents of East Austin to enjoy
  outdoor recreation and organized sports; he has been involved in
  Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and he was president of the
  first Hispanic semipro baseball league; moreover, he served on the
  Austin Parks and Recreation Department's Task Force, and he helped
  establish a new facility as a member of the Parque Zaragoza
  Recreation Center Advisory Board; he further benefited the area as
  a member of the Hispanic Crime Unit; a retired restaurateur, he
  currently serves as president of both the East Austin Lions Club and
  the Buena Vista Neighborhood Association; and
         WHEREAS, León Hernandez has set an inspiring example of civic
  engagement, and his unyielding dedication to the LULAC mission of
  advancing the economic, educational, political, and civil rights of
  Latinos has made a positive difference in the lives of generations
  of residents of East Austin and beyond; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Leónides G. Hernandez for a half century
  of service to the League of United Latin American Citizens and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
