R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Juan Antonio González Moreno, chair and CEO of |
|
Gruma, has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to strengthening |
|
the relationship between Texas and Mexico; and |
|
WHEREAS, One of Mexico's premier companies, Gruma has |
|
operated in the United States for more than four decades, and its |
|
U.S. subsidiary, Mission Foods, has been headquartered in the |
|
Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex since 1998; the company has invested |
|
more than $100 million in Texas in recent years, and its plants in |
|
Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio employ more than 1,000 Texans; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2016, Gruma-Mission Foods made a $4 million |
|
commitment to enable the establishment of the Mission Foods |
|
Texas-Mexico Center at Southern Methodist University, and |
|
Mr. González Moreno serves as chair of its executive advisory |
|
board; the center furthers dialogue related to the economic, |
|
political, and social ties between Mexico, Texas, and the United |
|
States as a whole and promotes scholarly research on border issues, |
|
energy, human capital and education, migration, and trade and |
|
investment; moreover, its programs encourage the development of |
|
sound public policy and greater cross-border integration and |
|
cross-sector collaboration among academia, government, nonprofit |
|
organizations, and business; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. González Moreno has also provided leadership in |
|
the development of social programs that support Hispanic |
|
communities in the United States; in 2017, he received the Good |
|
Neighbor Award from the United States Chamber of Commerce in |
|
recognition of his outstanding endeavors; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Mission Foods Texas-Mexico |
|
Center has advanced the study of a vital cross-border relationship, |
|
and through his dedication to invigorating that relationship, Juan |
|
González Moreno has helped build a bridge to a brighter future for |
|
all; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Juan Antonio González Moreno for his |
|
contributions to the economic partnership between Texas and Mexico |
|
and commend him for his work in behalf of the Mission Foods |
|
Texas-Mexico Center at Southern Methodist University; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. González Moreno as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
