R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Members of the Lake Jackson Church of Christ are
  celebrating the 75th anniversary of their church's founding on
  April 6 and 7, 2019; and
         WHEREAS, On March 5, 1944, the original eight members of the
  Lake Jackson Church of Christ held their first worship service in
  the Community House of the newly incorporated city of Lake Jackson;
  for the next few years, the growing congregation met in a private
  home, an elementary school, and a junior high school cafeteria; and
         WHEREAS, In 1950, the congregation constructed a sanctuary
  with a small auditorium and several classrooms, and as membership
  has grown over the years, the church has been expanded and renovated
  several times; most recently, a Fellowship Center and more
  classrooms were built in 1998, and in 2017, the auditorium and foyer
  were remodeled and a new Welcome Center was added; and
         WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions,
  the members of the church have supported missionaries in such
  places as Brazil, Uganda, and Asia, as well as such programs as Hope
  for Haiti's Children, Arms of Hope, and Medina Children's Home; the
  church's youth group has carried the church's message to the
  Dominican Republic and England, and they have also volunteered with
  Impact Church in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, In the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina, Ike, and
  Harvey, the congregation has provided meals, supplies, and other
  support to evacuees; the church also operates a clothing closet and
  food pantry twice a week, and its members participate in the Loving
  BISD school program and serve as mentors and tutors to students at
  Beutel Elementary School; since 1981, the church's Sunshine School,
  a twice-weekly preschool program, has ministered to several
  generations of children; and
         WHEREAS, For three quarters of a century, Lake Jackson Church
  of Christ has been a spiritual home and a source of comfort and aid
  to many, and its continued existence is a testament to the
  unwavering commitment of its members and clergy, both past and
  present; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Lake Jackson Church of Christ
  on its 75th anniversary and extend to its congregation sincere best
  wishes for a meaningful and memorable celebration; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Lake Jackson Church of Christ as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
