R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bess Brannen Elementary School in the Brazosport
  Independent School District is celebrating its 50th anniversary on
  March 22, 2019; and
         WHEREAS, Opened in October of the 1968-1969 school year, Bess
  Brannen Elementary was named in honor of an educator who taught in
  the Velasco schools, as well as in Lake Jackson's first elementary
  and junior high schools; and
         WHEREAS, Located in Lake Jackson, Brannen Elementary now
  serves more than 570 students from prekindergarten through fourth
  grade, and it has expanded significantly through the years to
  accommodate growing enrollment; originally under 33,000 square
  feet, the campus has undergone multiple renovations, and the
  numerous improvements have included the addition of more than
  14,000 square feet of classroom space; a bond referendum passed in
  2014 has provided funding for a new facility set to open in 2020;
  and
         WHEREAS, Since its establishment, Brannen Elementary has
  been guided by only three principals, Nancy Williams, Johnnie
  McWilliams, and Julie Evans, who leads the campus today; the school
  ranks among the state's top elementary schools, having earned the
  maximum number of Texas Education Agency distinctions for two
  consecutive years; and
         WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a matter of
  critical importance to the future of the Lone Star State, and for
  the past half-century, Bess Brannen Elementary School has provided
  its students with a strong foundation on which to build; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bess Brannen
  Elementary School and extend to its administrators, faculty, staff,
  and students sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
