R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Author and historian Tom Weger of Saint Jo received
  the 2017 Award of Excellence in Preserving History from the Texas
  Historical Commission at an event in Fort Worth on January 11, 2018;
  and
         WHEREAS, This prestigious award recognizes individuals for
  achievements in preservation planning, the identification of
  historic sites, the preservation of important archives or
  collections of artifacts, or research that deepens the
  understanding of state or local history; and
         WHEREAS, A Montague County businessperson and former mayor,
  Mr. Weger has written the book North To Kansas: The Real Chisholm
  Trail, which traces the actual route this iconic cattle trail
  followed through North Texas between 1866 and 1885; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Weger was also executive producer of and
  appeared in a film version of the book, which was made by Tammy
  Bean, a documentary filmmaker from Nocona; and
         WHEREAS, Through his dedicated research, Tom Weger has made a
  valuable contribution to increasing public awareness and
  appreciation of the great cattle drives of Texas; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Tom Weger on his receipt of the
  2017 Award of Excellence in Preserving History from the Texas
  Historical Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Weger as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
