R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Author and historian Tom Weger of Saint Jo received |
|
|
the 2017 Award of Excellence in Preserving History from the Texas |
|
|
Historical Commission at an event in Fort Worth on January 11, 2018; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This prestigious award recognizes individuals for |
|
|
achievements in preservation planning, the identification of |
|
|
historic sites, the preservation of important archives or |
|
|
collections of artifacts, or research that deepens the |
|
|
understanding of state or local history; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A Montague County businessperson and former mayor, |
|
|
Mr. Weger has written the book North To Kansas: The Real Chisholm |
|
|
Trail, which traces the actual route this iconic cattle trail |
|
|
followed through North Texas between 1866 and 1885; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Weger was also executive producer of and |
|
|
appeared in a film version of the book, which was made by Tammy |
|
|
Bean, a documentary filmmaker from Nocona; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his dedicated research, Tom Weger has made a |
|
|
valuable contribution to increasing public awareness and |
|
|
appreciation of the great cattle drives of Texas; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Tom Weger on his receipt of the |
|
|
2017 Award of Excellence in Preserving History from the Texas |
|
|
Historical Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Weger as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
