R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, April 10, 2019, marks the second anniversary of the |
|
death of Molly Jane Matheson of Fort Worth, and this solemn occasion |
|
provides an opportunity to honor her memory and to recognize |
|
Project Beloved, which was founded by her parents; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on May 18, 1994, in Fairfax, Virginia, Molly |
|
was the Mathesons' only daughter and a devoted sister to her three |
|
brothers, Nick, Ben, and Max; she resided for most of her life in |
|
Winter Park, Florida, which she considered to be her home, and she |
|
later moved with her family to Texas in 2010; deeply devoted to her |
|
faith, she was an active member of her church and a frequent youth |
|
volunteer at its vacation Bible school in the summer; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following her graduation from Timber Creek High |
|
School in Fort Worth, Molly Matheson attended the University of |
|
Arkansas for three years and then enrolled at Tarrant County |
|
College; she had a special rapport with children, and she looked |
|
forward to helping those in need as a social worker after earning |
|
her degree; and |
|
WHEREAS, The tragic circumstances of Molly's murder on April |
|
10, 2017, at the age of 22, led her parents, David and Tracy |
|
Matheson, to establish Project Beloved, with the mission to change |
|
the conversation about sexual assault and to empower sexual assault |
|
survivors; in the hope of sparing other families from the |
|
heartbreak they have suffered, the Mathesons have advocated for |
|
improvements in the way that law enforcement tracks sex offenders, |
|
and they have also worked to make the process of reporting rape less |
|
traumatic; moreover, their organization is awarding scholarships |
|
to college students majoring in social work; and |
|
WHEREAS, While Molly Matheson's senseless death deprived the |
|
world of her promise, her spirit endures in the passion and |
|
commitment of those who are carrying on the important work of |
|
Project Beloved and who are channeling their profound grief into |
|
meaningful change; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Molly Jane Matheson |
|
and commend David and Tracy Matheson for their efforts through |
|
Project Beloved; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Molly Jane |
|
Matheson. |
