R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy boys' basketball |
|
team reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2019 University |
|
Interscholastic League 4A state championship on March 9 at the |
|
Alamodome in San Antonio; and |
|
WHEREAS, After earning the District 10 title in the regular |
|
season, the Eagles dispatched playoff foes River Oaks Castleberry, |
|
Melissa, Dallas Carter, Texarkana Pleasant Grove, and Dallas |
|
Hutchins High Schools to advance to the state tournament; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Faith Family Academy players opened with an |
|
80-74 semifinal decision over Houston Yates and then battled |
|
Liberty Hill High School for the state crown in front of more than |
|
11,000 fans at the Alamodome; trailing by 12 points in the third |
|
quarter, the Eagles mounted a furious comeback, claiming a |
|
seven-point lead late in the final frame; after Liberty Hill tied |
|
the game with 20 seconds left, Jordan Walsh slammed home a dunk as |
|
time expired, giving Faith Family Academy a thrilling 53-51 victory |
|
and the first state crown in the school's history; and |
|
WHEREAS, Most Valuable Player Trae Clayton led Faith Family |
|
Academy's winning effort, scoring a game-high 15 points, and he |
|
joined Mr. Walsh on the 4A All-Tournament Team; the Eagles also |
|
received valuable contributions throughout the 2018-2019 campaign |
|
from the other members of the roster: Keith Barnes, Jaylen Brenham, |
|
Langston Murphy Brown, Jeremiah Coleman, Rakeim Gary, Immanuel |
|
Hooks, Malik James, Mike Lenoir, Dawaun Mims, Jacquez Ramey, and |
|
Sye Thomas; these dedicated athletes were ably guided by head coach |
|
and athletic director Brandon Thomas and assistant coaches Jimmy |
|
Butler, Corey Cornish, Ryan Foppe, Ryan Kelly, and Maurius Miles; |
|
additional support was provided by Faith Family Academy |
|
superintendent Mollie Purcell, assistant superintendent Dean |
|
McGuire, and principal Tien Nguyen; and |
|
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the |
|
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering |
|
commitment to excellence, and the Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy |
|
basketball players will treasure the memory of this accomplishment |
|
for many years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy |
|
boys' basketball team on winning the 2019 UIL 4A state championship |
|
and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Eagles as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
