R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Canadian Record won numerous awards at the 2019 |
|
Better Newspaper Contest, hosted by the Panhandle Press Association |
|
at the organization's 109th annual convention in Amarillo on March |
|
22 and 23; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sweeping the competition, the Canadian Record |
|
garnered 12 first-place and 2 second-place plaques in a variety of |
|
categories, as well as the General Excellence Award in the Division |
|
I contest for weeklies; and |
|
WHEREAS, Pacing the Record was editor Laurie Ezzell Brown, |
|
who earned top honors for her entries in serious column writing, |
|
news writing, feature writing, spot news photography, and human |
|
interest photography, as well as second-place recognition in |
|
editorial writing; sports editor Peyton Aufill brought home a |
|
number of wins in feature writing, headline writing, sports |
|
writing, sports photography, and special section, and news editor |
|
Cathy Ricketts placed first in the society/lifestyles category; |
|
moreover, advertising manager Cheri Smith finished second in |
|
advertising design, and the publication's staff captured |
|
first-place awards in headline writing and for the paper's |
|
front-page layout and online edition; and |
|
WHEREAS, Newspapers serve as a vital resource for a |
|
well-informed citizenry, and through their important work, the |
|
talented journalists of the Canadian Record are making an |
|
invaluable contribution to their community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Canadian Record on its success |
|
in the 2019 Panhandle Press Association Better Newspaper Contest |
|
and extend to all those associated with the publication sincere |
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the newspaper as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
