R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Back on My Feet Austin is hosting its annual gala and |
|
auction at the JW Marriott on April 18, 2019; and |
|
WHEREAS, A national nonprofit organization operating in 12 |
|
cities across the United States, Back on My Feet helps individuals |
|
who are homeless by involving them in a unique initiative that |
|
encourages fitness and provides assistance in finding employment |
|
and housing; participants begin by running three times a week with a |
|
group of peers and volunteers in an effort to build confidence, |
|
strength, and self-esteem; after taking part in the running regimen |
|
for a month, members move to the next stage of the program, which |
|
includes educational support, job training and referrals, housing |
|
assistance, and financial aid; and |
|
WHEREAS, First founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in |
|
2007, Back on My Feet opened its Austin chapter in 2013; since its |
|
inception, the organization has seen 70 percent of its members |
|
nationwide successfully move their lives forward, with thousands of |
|
participants earning jobs, finding housing, or completing further |
|
education and training programs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Back on My Feet is making a lasting and positive |
|
difference in the lives of some our nation's most vulnerable |
|
residents, and the Austin chapter is playing an important role in |
|
addressing homelessness in Central Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Back on My Feet Austin on the occasion of |
|
its 2019 gala and auction and commend the organization's members |
|
and volunteers for their outstanding efforts; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Back on My Feet Austin as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
