R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Gina Gallegos of the Texas Department of
  Transportation is being recognized as the Woman of the Year in
  Transportation at the 2019 WTS International awards gala in Boston,
  Massachusetts, on May 16; and
         WHEREAS, The director of TxDOT's construction division,
  Ms. Gallegos earned her bachelor's degree in civil engineering at
  Texas A&M University and joined the department in 1994 as an
  engineering assistant; she gained experience in various sections in
  the Bexar Metro area office in the San Antonio District and then
  served as project engineer for the city's largest construction
  project, the Interstate 410/U.S. 281 interchange; and
         WHEREAS, Following a series of promotions, Ms. Gallegos
  became area engineer for the Bexar County area office, at a time
  when it managed more than 40 projects totaling over $700 million; in
  2010, she was appointed director of construction for a 12-county
  area in the San Antonio District, and seven years later, she was
  named director of the construction division; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Gallegos has demonstrated exceptional
  dedication to her profession through her efforts in behalf of the
  next generation of engineers; she led the San Antonio District's
  Young Engineers Group, and she has advocated for the field at
  numerous career day events; moreover, she served as chair and as a
  member of the advisory board of the Texas Alliance for Minorities as
  well as president of her local TAME chapter; the recipient of
  numerous honors, she received the Gibb Gilchrist Award from the
  Texas A&M University Transportation Institute, and she was
  previously recognized by WTS International with both the Innovative
  Transportation Solutions Award and the 2018 Woman of the Year in
  Transportation Award for the San Antonio District; and
         WHEREAS, Benefiting the wider community, Ms. Gallegos served
  on the 2010 Citizens' Bond Committee for the Northside Independent
  School District; she is also involved in collecting presents for
  the local children's shelter every holiday season; and
         WHEREAS, Through her skill, leadership, and exceptional
  commitment to the mission of the Texas Department of
  Transportation, Gina Gallegos has earned the respect and admiration
  of her peers and the deep appreciation of her fellow citizens; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Gina Gallegos on her selection as
  the 2019 Woman of the Year in Transportation by WTS International
  and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Gallegos as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
