R E S O L U T I O N
|
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding coaching career at |
|
|
North Central Texas College, Van Hedrick was inducted into the |
|
|
North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in |
|
|
2019; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The only head softball coach in the 20-year history |
|
|
of the NCTC program, Coach Hedrick started the team in 1999 after |
|
|
serving as the school's assistant baseball coach; he has posted |
|
|
winning records in 19 of his 20 seasons and leads all active Texas |
|
|
junior college coaches with more than 840 victories; moreover, his |
|
|
total wins rank 10th among all active National Junior College |
|
|
Athletic Association Division I coaches; under his direction, the |
|
|
Lady Lions have made three NJCAA Division I national tournament |
|
|
appearances and have won two conference crowns and three Region V |
|
|
North titles; since 2005, he has also distinguished himself in his |
|
|
role as the college's athletic director; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hedrick's dedication to sports extends back to |
|
|
his youth; he garnered all-district football, basketball, and |
|
|
baseball honors as a student at Iowa Park High School, and he went |
|
|
on to play baseball at Vernon Regional Junior College and Tarleton |
|
|
State University; along the way, he earned an associate degree at |
|
|
Vernon and a criminal justice degree with a minor in physical |
|
|
education from TSU; after working as an assistant coach at Hill |
|
|
College, he returned to TSU and completed his master of education |
|
|
degree while gaining additional coaching experience as a graduate |
|
|
assistant; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Coach Hedrick enjoys the love |
|
|
and support of his wife, Robyn, and their three daughters, Ashley, |
|
|
Allison, and Autumn; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his outstanding ability to teach and motivate, |
|
|
Van Hedrick has built a record of excellence for the North Central |
|
|
Texas College softball program, and he is indeed deserving of this |
|
|
hall of fame honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Van Hedrick on his induction into |
|
|
the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame and |
|
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Coach Hedrick as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
