R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Wenter Blair Anderson of Ponder has worked
  tirelessly to raise awareness about the genetic cardiovascular
  disorder known as Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH); and
         WHEREAS, A life-threatening hereditary condition, Familial
  Hypercholesterolemia causes high levels of LDL cholesterol, and if
  left untreated, increases the risk of heart attacks and
  cardiovascular disease; it is estimated that 1 in 250 people
  worldwide and 1.3 million Americans suffer from FH, though less
  than 10 percent of those affected are ever diagnosed prior to an
  unexpected heart attack or stroke in early adulthood; and
         WHEREAS, Since learning that she and her son both tested
  positive for FH, Wenter Blair Anderson has dedicated herself to
  educating the public about the disorder; she has advocated for
  legislation that would require all incoming third and fourth
  graders in Texas to have a lipid panel to screen for FH, and she has
  been invited to speak at a number of medical conferences, including
  the first global symposium for pediatric and adolescent FH in
  Athens, Greece, and the Go Red Luncheons in Dallas and Colorado
  Springs, Colorado; furthermore, she is a founding board member and
  former vice president of the FH Foundation, and she also serves on
  the National Lipid Association Foundation Board of Directors and
  has served on the American Heart Association Texas Legislative
  Advisory Board; and
         WHEREAS, Public awareness is a crucial tool in helping to
  ensure that more cases of FH are diagnosed and treated as early as
  possible, and Wenter Blair Anderson is indeed worthy of recognition
  for her efforts to address this serious medical condition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Wenter Blair Anderson for raising
  awareness about Familial Hypercholesterolemia and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Anderson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
