R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Captain Donna M. Odem-Nichols retired from the |
|
Victoria Fire Department in April 2019, drawing to a close a |
|
noteworthy tenure that spanned more than three decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Odem-Nichols began her career in 1986, when she |
|
joined Victoria EMS as an emergency medical technician; rising |
|
steadily through the ranks, she became EMS crew chief and then |
|
supervisor before earning promotion to captain in 1995; that same |
|
year, Victoria EMS merged with the fire department, and |
|
Ms. Odem-Nichols started cross-training as a firefighter; in 1997, |
|
she was named the first female fire captain in the history of the |
|
Victoria Fire Department, and she went on to serve her community in |
|
that capacity for more than two decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of her tenure, Captain Odem-Nichols |
|
was a trailblazer, and she helped lead the department through a |
|
period of transformation; in addition to her many professional |
|
achievements, she organized the first VFD Explorers Club, and she |
|
was the caretaker for the department Dalmatian for a number of |
|
years; along the way, she garnered the respect and admiration of her |
|
colleagues as well as members of the local community; and |
|
WHEREAS, For 32 years, Donna Odem-Nichols has demonstrated an |
|
exceptional commitment to protecting the lives and property of her |
|
fellow citizens, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career |
|
well spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Captain Donna M. Odem-Nichols on |
|
her retirement from the Victoria Fire Department and extend to her |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Captain Odem-Nichols as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
