R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System
  is joining in the celebration of National VA Research Week on May
  13-17, 2019; and
         WHEREAS, VA Research Week offers VA medical centers the
  opportunity to showcase the various achievements of their
  researchers and the role that they play in advancing medical
  science while meeting the health care needs of members of our
  country's armed forces; the theme "The Science of Hope" was chosen
  for this year's observance, which commemorates 94 years of research
  excellence by VA centers; and
         WHEREAS, The VA North Texas Health Care System, which is
  composed of the Dallas VA Medical Center in Dallas and the Sam
  Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, began its research
  program in the mid-1950s; since the initiative's inception,
  researchers affiliated with the system have been instrumental in
  the creation of new therapies for conditions ranging from diabetes
  to heart disease; and
         WHEREAS, Today, more than 90 investigators and 400 staff
  perform research as part of the VA North Texas Health Care System;
  their major areas of study include cardiology, cancer, infectious
  diseases, and social reintegration, and their work would not be
  possible without the dedicated involvement of a multitude of
  veteran participants; last year alone, more than 2,500 of them
  volunteered for research studies out of a desire to help future
  veterans in need; and
         WHEREAS, Through their vital research efforts, entities such
  as the VA North Texas Health Care System are helping to ensure that
  the highest level of care is provided to the men and women who have
  fought and sacrificed to safeguard our freedoms; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the VA North Texas Health Care System on
  the occasion of National VA Research Week on May 13-17, 2019, and
  extend to all those associated with the system sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the system as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
