R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The 99th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and J. L. Price of Levelland is marking this
  significant occasion in his life on May 17, 2019; and
         WHEREAS, The son of William Edwin Price and Emma Elizabeth
  Eskew Price, J. L. Price was born in Magnolia, Arkansas, in 1920;
  his family moved to Pettit, Texas, when he was eight years old; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Price worked for the tax assessor before serving
  his country as a radarman in the United States Army during World War
  II; trained at Fort Bliss and at Fort Callan in California, he was
  deployed to the Pacific theater in February 1944; he fought on
  Saipan and attained the rank of sergeant; after his discharge, he
  returned to his job with the tax assessor and then became a farmer,
  growing mostly cotton and maize; today, he continues to grow hay;
  and
         WHEREAS, On May 29, 1948, Mr. Price married the former Selma
  Keen, and they became the parents of six children; following her
  death in 1987, he was fortunate enough to find love a second time
  with the former JoAnn Gresham; with their marriage on September 1,
  1989, he welcomed her three children into his treasured family,
  which today includes 50 grandchildren and spouses, 53
  great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Price contributed to his community through his
  service on the boards of the Pettit Co-op Gin and the Lamb County
  Electric Cooperative; over the years, he helped local families
  harvest crops when they suffered a death or illness, and he assisted
  Pettit residents in cleaning up tornado damage in 1970; he was also
  involved with 4-H, and he was an active member of Pettit Missionary
  Baptist Church and College Avenue Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of nearly a century, J. L. Price has
  not only bravely served his nation but has also met the challenges
  and opportunities of a long life with grace and fortitude, and he is
  blessed with the deep respect and lasting affection of a host of
  loved ones; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate J. L. Price on the joyous occasion
  of his 99th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Price as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
