R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Maurice Earl Toliver of |
|
Houston were deeply saddened by his death on May 8, 2019, at the age |
|
of 79; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on February 29, 1940, Maurice Toliver grew up |
|
in Houston and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1961; |
|
he exchanged the vows of matrimony with Ella Kellum in 1965, and |
|
they shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 54 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Toliver worked at Southwest Camera Store for |
|
several years, and he took photos for Wheatley and Booker T. |
|
Washington High Schools and on numerous special occasions, |
|
including weddings, funerals, and community, church, and social |
|
events; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of deep religious faith, he was a member of |
|
Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church for more than six decades, |
|
during which time he held positions as church treasurer and trustee |
|
and participated in the Annual Back to School Health Fair; he |
|
further benefited his community through his work at a number of |
|
local institutions, including the Faith Revitalization Center, the |
|
Greater Fifth Ward Congregational Health Center, and the Rebuilding |
|
Houston Project; in addition, he held membership in the Phillis |
|
Wheatley Metropolitan Alumni and Ex-Student Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Maurice Toliver possessed a generosity of spirit |
|
that expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of |
|
countless people with his warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Maurice Earl |
|
Toliver and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Maurice |
|
Earl Toliver. |
