R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The strength and cohesion of our communities are |
|
enhanced by the efforts of individuals such as Paul Tovar, whose |
|
work over the course of nearly six decades has contributed to the |
|
quality of life in Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Tovar holds a pharmacy degree from The |
|
University of Texas at Austin, and he completed postgraduate work |
|
in long-term health care administration, real estate, banking, and |
|
business; as a certified pharmacist, he has expanded access to |
|
health care by establishing medical clinics and pharmacies |
|
throughout the city; he has also provided coverage and services to |
|
vulnerable women and children through his Vista Health Insurance |
|
Plan, and his new private insurance plan assists those who are not |
|
eligible for government programs; further, his nonprofit |
|
organization, Primero Health, offers free health education and |
|
resources; and |
|
WHEREAS, A community development leader, Mr. Tovar has |
|
helped create affordable housing and equal education opportunities |
|
in the Austin area; moreover, as board chair of the Texas Certified |
|
Development Company, which he founded in 1981, he oversees a small |
|
business loan program designed to promote business growth, generate |
|
jobs, and improve economic stability; he additionally launched CP |
|
Enterprises and Hallmark Business Services; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Tovar previously served as chair of the Greater |
|
Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; in the early 1970s, he opened |
|
the Rockin' M dance hall, and the establishment attracted such |
|
influential conjunto musical performers as Flaco Jiménez; and |
|
WHEREAS, Paul Tovar has demonstrated a lasting commitment to |
|
making Austin a better place for all, and in so doing, he has earned |
|
the deep respect and appreciation of his fellow residents; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize Paul Tovar for his longtime |
|
contributions to his community and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Tovar as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
