R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Clifton Smith of Childress was honored with |
|
induction into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame on April 6, 2019; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith enjoyed a professional rodeo career that |
|
spanned almost two decades; a trailblazer in the tie-down roping |
|
event, he was one of the earliest right-handed competitors to |
|
dismount the horse from the right side after catching a calf, an |
|
innovation that enabled him to turn a faster time; this approach |
|
helped him qualify for the National Finals Rodeo in 1960 and 1962, |
|
and the practice later became commonplace in the sport; and |
|
WHEREAS, With the passing years, Mr. Smith and his wife, |
|
Judy, have had the pleasure of seeing numerous members of their |
|
family carry on the tradition of rodeo excellence; their children |
|
Stran Smith and Smitty Smith enjoyed success in the arena, with |
|
Stran becoming a world champion tie-down roper, and their |
|
grandchildren include rodeo competitors Tuf Cooper, who became |
|
world all-around champion, Shada Brazile, Stetson Vest, and Clif |
|
Cooper; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame recognizes those |
|
individuals who have excelled in the sport and who exemplify the |
|
individualism and independence of the American cowboy, and Clifton |
|
Smith is indeed deserving of a place in this elite fraternity; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Clifton Smith on his induction into |
|
the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
