R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Vanguard College Preparatory School in Waco |
|
celebrated Emma's Day, its annual day of volunteering, on April 12, |
|
2019; and |
|
WHEREAS, Every spring, the tradition inspires around 200 |
|
students in grades 7 through 12 to devote half a day to serving the |
|
community; originally known as Viking Volunteer Day, it was renamed |
|
to honor the memory of a student, Emma Welter, who lost her life in a |
|
vehicle accident while on her way to participate in the event on |
|
February 9, 2000; and |
|
WHEREAS, This year, Vanguard students volunteered at 17 |
|
locations across the city of Waco, ranging from Mission Waco to |
|
Habitat for Humanity to the Cameron Park Zoo; the event is designed |
|
to help young people build character, learn about areas of need in |
|
their community, and develop a sense of civic responsibility; and |
|
WHEREAS, By mobilizing Vanguard students to get involved, |
|
Emma's Day has helped support a host of worthy causes, while also |
|
providing its participants with valuable skills and experiences |
|
that will serve them well throughout their lives; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend the students of Vanguard College |
|
Preparatory School for their involvement in Emma's Day 2019 and |
|
extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Vanguard College Preparatory School as an expression |
|
of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
