R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Ambassador Sichan Siv has greatly benefited his
  fellow citizens through his loyal service to the nation, and he has
  demonstrated the enduring strength of American exceptionalism; and
         WHEREAS, A proud Texan, Ambassador Siv was appointed in 2001
  by President George W. Bush as U.S. representative to the United
  Nations Economic and Social Council; during his five-year tenure,
  the president selected him to represent the country at the
  celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the
  United Nations; and
         WHEREAS, Ambassador Siv previously earned distinction in the
  U.S. State Department as the first Asian American deputy assistant
  secretary; he also served as a deputy assistant to President George
  H. W. Bush, and in December 2018, he was one of five former White
  House aides to accompany the late president's casket to the nation's
  capitol on Air Force One for the state funeral; over the years,
  Ambassador Siv has given generously of his time and talents to such
  organizations as the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission and
  the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol; he is the recipient
  of numerous accolades, among them the George H. W. Bush Award for
  Outstanding Public Service; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Cambodia, Mr. Siv was employed by the U.S.
  relief agency CARE when his country was overrun by the Khmer Rouge
  in the 1970s, and he was sent to a labor camp; after his escape, he
  was resettled as a refugee in Wallingford, Connecticut, and he went
  on to earn a master's degree in international relations at Columbia
  University; the author of several books, he has worked as an
  international affairs advisor and motivational speaker; and
         WHEREAS, An embodiment of the American dream, Sichan Siv has
  greatly distinguished himself through his patriotic contributions,
  and he may take pride in his record of achievement; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Sichan Siv for his service to the United
  States and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ambassador Siv as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
