R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, Students from Ascension Academy in Amarillo made an |
|
|
outstanding showing at the 2019 National Science Bowl, which took |
|
|
place from April 25 to 29 in Washington, D.C.; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established by the U.S. Department of Energy, the |
|
|
National Science Bowl is one of the nation's largest science |
|
|
competitions, with more than 300,000 students having participated |
|
|
in the program since its inception in 1991; this year, the Ascension |
|
|
Academy squad competed against 47 other middle school teams from |
|
|
across the country, answering questions that required knowledge in |
|
|
a range of disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth |
|
|
and space science, energy, and mathematics; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Cardinals qualified to represent the Lone Star |
|
|
State in this prestigious event through their exceptional |
|
|
performance in the Pantex Regional Science Bowl, held at West Texas |
|
|
A&M University on February 9; the team claimed an undefeated |
|
|
victory over 28 other middle schools in the Panhandle to earn a spot |
|
|
on the national stage; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Ascension Academy science bowl team |
|
|
include Mehtan Rahman, Nathan Leech, Keltan Norris, Jeff Zheng, and |
|
|
Eli Bridges, each of whom made valuable contributions over the |
|
|
course of the school year; these accomplished students benefited |
|
|
from the guidance of coaches Marylin Winders and Samantha Usnick; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By demonstrating admirable dedication, hard work, |
|
|
and commitment to excellence, these fine young Texans have brought |
|
|
great pride to their school, families, and community, and they are |
|
|
indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Ascension Academy science bowl |
|
|
team on its performance in the 2019 National Science Bowl and extend |
|
|
to its members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
