R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Scott R. Muri has greatly benefited the Spring
  Branch Independent School District through his exemplary service as
  superintendent, and as he prepares to take on a new challenge as
  superintendent of Ector County ISD in Odessa, it is indeed fitting
  to recognize his outstanding contributions; and
         WHEREAS, Named superintendent in 2015, Dr. Muri built a
  strong consensus with the school board, community, and staff
  through the development and implementation of a comprehensive,
  research-based strategic plan, and he established a host of new
  initiatives for students, personnel, and operations; among many
  instructional innovations, he extended pre-K to three-year-olds,
  added more dual enrollment and dual credit opportunities, and
  expanded identification of gifted and talented students to ensure
  greater equity and access to such programming; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Muri shepherded an $898 million school bond to
  overwhelming voter approval in 2017; during his tenure, student
  achievement gaps have narrowed, college entrance exam
  participation and SAT scores have risen, and the number of
  Improvement Required campuses decreased from six to one; he also
  skillfully guided the recovery of the district in the aftermath of
  Hurricane Harvey; active in many professional associations, he is
  frequently called upon to share his expertise with colleagues and
  public officials, and he has served as president of the Texas School
  Alliance; and
         WHEREAS, Previously, Dr. Muri served in administrative roles
  in Georgia and North Carolina, and he began his career in 1988 as an
  elementary school teacher; in addition to a doctoral degree in
  educational leadership from Wingate University, he holds a master's
  degree in public school administration from Stetson University and
  a bachelor's degree in education from Wake Forest University; and
         WHEREAS, A visionary administrator, Scott Muri has
  significantly advanced the quality of education in Spring Branch
  ISD, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his accomplishments as
  he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his noteworthy career;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Scott R. Muri for his service as
  superintendent of the Spring Branch Independent School District and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for success in his new post; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Muri as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
