R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Carl Sherman Jr. has ably served his fellow citizens |
|
during his two terms as a member of the DeSoto Independent School |
|
District Board of Trustees; and |
|
WHEREAS, First elected to represent Place 1 on the board in |
|
2013, Mr. Sherman joined the Policy Review Committee early on in |
|
his tenure; he went on to become the board's secretary in 2014 and |
|
its president in 2015, holding the latter office for four years; |
|
under his guidance, DeSoto ISD launched a number of important |
|
initiatives, including a board fellow program, an International |
|
Baccalaureate diploma program, and a full-day pre-K program; |
|
moreover, the district reaffirmed its commitment to providing |
|
students with a solid education in science and technology by |
|
opening the Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy and |
|
becoming a T-STEM district; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his professional community, Mr. Sherman |
|
has served as a regional director for the Texas Caucus of Black |
|
School Board Members, and he has also given generously of his time |
|
and talents to the Young Elected Officials Network; moreover, he |
|
led the Best Southwest School Board Presidents delegation on a trip |
|
to meet with legislators in Washington, D.C., and participated in |
|
the Advocacy Institute conference in the nation's capital; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sherman enjoys the love |
|
and support of his wife, Veronica, and he takes great pride in his |
|
two children, Carl and Danielle; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his leadership and expertise, Carl Sherman |
|
Jr. has furthered the educational mission of DeSoto ISD, and his |
|
dedicated efforts are indeed deserving of special recognition; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Carl Sherman Jr. for his service on the |
|
DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees and extend to |
|
him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Sherman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
