R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Madeleine Smith has been named valedictorian of the
  Class of 2019 at The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, and she
  indeed merits special recognition for receiving this significant
  honor; and
         WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only
  intellect and aptitude, but also four years of dedication to the
  highest academic standards; in securing her place as the top
  ranking student in her class, Ms. Smith demonstrated a thorough
  understanding of a wide range of subjects, and her attainment of
  this coveted distinction is the crowning achievement of a notable
  high school career; and
         WHEREAS, A "Cooper Pioneer," Ms. Smith has attended The John
  Cooper School since kindergarten; in addition to managing a
  demanding course load, she has participated in a number of
  extracurricular activities, including volleyball, soccer, the
  Ecology Club, and the Interact Club; moreover, she has been named a
  National Merit Finalist, and she received a Side-Out Ambassador
  Scholarship for co-chairing the Dig Pink event, which raises funds
  for breast cancer research; following her graduation, she plans to
  study environmental science at Washington University in St. Louis;
  and
         WHEREAS, During her years at The John Cooper School,
  Madeleine Smith has earned the respect and admiration of both her
  teachers and classmates, and her exceptional scholastic ability and
  commitment to excellence have opened the way to a bright and
  promising future for this outstanding young Texan; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Madeleine Smith on graduating as
  valedictorian of The John Cooper School Class of 2019 and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for continued success as she begins the next
  exciting chapter of her life; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
