R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Every year on Patriot Day, Americans reflect on the |
|
tragic events of September 11, 2001, honoring the thousands of |
|
innocent people who were killed and the many thousands more who |
|
joined together in the wake of catastrophe to protect, comfort, and |
|
serve the residents of this great nation; and |
|
WHEREAS, On that infamous September morning, 19 terrorists |
|
hijacked four civilian aircraft and perpetrated one of the most |
|
horrific crimes in American history; two of the planes were used to |
|
bring down the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York |
|
City while another targeted the Pentagon; the fourth airplane, |
|
United Flight 93, crashed in the Pennsylvania countryside thanks to |
|
the heroic resistance of its passengers; and |
|
WHEREAS, All told, nearly 3,000 people died as a result of |
|
those attacks, including more than 400 New York first responders, |
|
184 individuals at the Pentagon, and the 40 passengers of Flight 93; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In the months following the attacks, the Congress of |
|
the United States passed a joint resolution designating September |
|
11 as Patriot Day; on that day, Americans pause for a moment of |
|
silence, during which we remember those we have lost, pay tribute to |
|
those who have fought and sacrificed to defend our way of life, and |
|
renew our commitment to our neighbors, our ideals, and our country; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate Patriot Day 2020 in memory of all |
|
who were killed or injured on September 11, 2001, and in honor of |
|
the nation's first responders and military service members. |
