R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Americans everywhere are pausing on Veterans Day, |
|
|
November 11, 2020, to pay grateful tribute to those brave men and |
|
|
women who have served in the United States armed forces; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Originally designated as Armistice Day, in |
|
|
commemoration of the end of World War I, Veterans Day now honors all |
|
|
who have performed military service in this country's behalf, |
|
|
whether as a member of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, |
|
|
or Coast Guard; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, From the Revolutionary War to the present, more than |
|
|
40 million men and women have filled the ranks of our uniformed |
|
|
branches; of those legions, over half a million have died in battle, |
|
|
more than 1.5 million have been wounded, thousands have suffered |
|
|
the rigors of imprisonment in POW camps, and thousands more remain |
|
|
missing in action; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout its history, our nation has been |
|
|
sustained by those whose love of country is such that they are |
|
|
willing to take up arms in its defense; every day of the year, |
|
|
America's servicemen and servicewomen are at their posts, at home |
|
|
and throughout the world, charged with maintaining the nation's |
|
|
security and prepared to do their utmost in defense of their |
|
|
homeland and the cause of freedom; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Whether in time of war or peace, members of the U.S. |
|
|
armed forces work tirelessly as they keep faith with their oath to |
|
|
"support and defend the Constitution of the United States," and |
|
|
even though we set aside this special day in recognition of those |
|
|
who have served, it is incumbent on our citizenry to hold always in |
|
|
their hearts the men and women in uniform, past and present, and to |
|
|
honor their steadfast courage, their unfailing selflessness, and |
|
|
their willing sacrifice; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate Veterans Day 2020 and extend |
|
|
heartfelt gratitude to all of our veterans for their valor and |
|
|
patriotism. |
