R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The tragic death of Muhlaysia Booker of Dallas on |
|
May 18, 2019, at the age of 22, is a devastating loss to her loved |
|
ones and to all who were inspired by her bravery and commitment to |
|
helping others; and |
|
WHEREAS, Muhlaysia Booker was born on January 14, 1997, to |
|
Stephanie Houston and Pierre Booker, and she grew up with the |
|
companionship of two siblings; Ms. Booker graduated from South Oak |
|
Cliff High School in 2015 and studied for a time at Louisiana State |
|
University; she was outgoing and vivacious, and she enjoyed |
|
socializing with her wide circle of friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, In April, Ms. Booker's life took an unimaginable |
|
turn when she became the victim of a hate crime; although the attack |
|
threatened her sense of safety, she felt moved to do something to |
|
keep others from being victimized and spoke out about the epidemic |
|
of violence against transgender women; by sharing her story with |
|
the world, she touched the lives of women like herself and opened |
|
many eyes to the destructive impact of intolerance; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although her passing brings immeasurable pain and |
|
sadness, Muhlaysia Booker will forever be remembered for her |
|
strength of character and her vibrant personality; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Muhlaysia Booker |
|
and extend deepest condolences to all those who mourn her passing; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Muhlaysia |
|
Booker. |
