A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the hiring of retired classroom teachers or retired |
|
|
education professionals to serve as mentor teachers. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 21.458, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) A school district may contract with a retired |
|
|
classroom teacher or a retired education professional to provide |
|
|
mentoring to teachers in the district under this section. A mentor |
|
|
teacher hired under this subsection must: |
|
|
(1) comply with Subsections(b)(1) and (2); and |
|
|
(2) meet the qualifications required under Subsection |
|
|
(b)(3). |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
