A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the types of vehicles regulated as neighborhood |
|
|
electric vehicles. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 551.301, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 551.301. DEFINITION. In this subchapter, |
|
|
"neighborhood electric vehicle" means an electric [a] vehicle that |
|
|
can attain a maximum speed of 35 miles per hour on a paved level |
|
|
surface and otherwise complies with: |
|
|
(1) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards applicable |
|
|
to motorcycles in 49 C.F.R. Part 571 for a vehicle that has at least |
|
|
three wheels in contact with the ground; or |
|
|
(2) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 500 (49 |
|
|
C.F.R. Section 571.500) for low-speed vehicles. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
