A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to physician delegation of the provision of anesthesia |
|
services to certain anesthesiologist assistants. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. The heading to Subchapter B, Chapter 157, |
|
Occupations Code, is amended to read as follows: |
|
SUBCHAPTER B. DELEGATION TO ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES, |
|
[AND] PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS, AND ANESTHESIOLOGIST ASSISTANTS |
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter B, Chapter 157, Occupations Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 157.061 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 157.061. DELEGATION TO CERTAIN ANESTHESIOLOGIST |
|
ASSISTANTS. (a) In a licensed hospital or ambulatory surgical |
|
center, a supervising physician who is an anesthesiologist may |
|
delegate the administration and provision of an anesthetic or an |
|
anesthesia-related service ordered by the supervising physician to |
|
an anesthesiologist assistant who: |
|
(1) has passed the Certifying Examination for |
|
Anesthesiologist Assistants administered by the National |
|
Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants or the |
|
commission's successor entity; and |
|
(2) holds a certificate issued by the National |
|
Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants or the |
|
commission's successor entity. |
|
(b) The supervising physician's order for an anesthetic or |
|
an anesthesia-related service is not required to specify a drug, |
|
dose, or administration technique. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
