A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the annual salary paid to judges of county courts at law |
in Travis County. |
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
SECTION 1. Section 25.2292, Government Code, is amended by |
amending Subsection (f) and adding Subsection (f-1) to read as |
follows: |
(f) The judge of a county court at law shall be paid an |
annual salary in an amount [that is at least] equal to an amount |
that is [the salary paid district judges from the general revenue
fund of the state, but not more than] $1,000 less than the annual |
salary, including supplements, received by district judges in the |
county. For purposes of determining the annual salary of a judge of |
a county court at law under this section, the total annual salary |
received by a district judge in the county does not include |
longevity pay provided under Section 659.0445 or compensation paid |
to the presiding criminal judge of Travis County under Section |
75.016. |
(f-1) The judge of a county court at law who receives a |
salary under this section is entitled to longevity pay from the |
county if the judge has completed four years of service as an active |
judge, as defined by Section 74.041, in Travis County for which |
credit is established in the Texas County and District Retirement |
System. Longevity pay paid under this subsection is not included as |
part of the judge's annual salary for purposes of the salary |
limitations provided by Subsection (f). The amount of longevity |
pay paid to a judge under this subsection must be equal to the |
greater of: |
(1) the amount of longevity pay paid to a judge of a |
district court in the county who has comparable years of service; or |
(2) the amount of longevity pay paid to an employee of |
the county who has comparable years of service. |
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
