SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 171
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
welcome the City of Frisco delegation to Austin for Frisco Day at |
|
|
the Capitol, which is being celebrated February 12, 2019; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The City of Frisco traces its roots to 1902, when the |
|
|
Saint Louis-San Francisco Railway built a line through the area and |
|
|
established a watering station for its steam engines; local |
|
|
residents chose Frisco City as their community's name in honor of |
|
|
the railroad, and the name was later shortened to Frisco; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout much of its history, Frisco was a small |
|
|
agricultural community of fewer than 2,000 people; however, the |
|
|
city experienced dramatic growth in the 1980s, and due to the |
|
|
visionary leadership of citizens and the city's exceptional |
|
|
quality of life, by 1990, Frisco was becoming one of the |
|
|
fastest-growing cities in the country; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Frisco is home to more than 182,000 people; |
|
|
the city was named the Best Place to Live in America by Money |
|
|
magazine in 2018, and it features a wide range of social, |
|
|
cultural, and recreational opportunities for residents; it is |
|
|
headquarters to seven professional sports teams, including the |
|
|
Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Stars, and the Frisco RoughRiders; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The people of Frisco are justifiably proud of the |
|
|
many contributions they have made to the growth and prosperity of |
|
|
the North Texas region, and it is truly fitting that a day be set |
|
|
aside to celebrate their city's exceptional assets; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby proclaim February 12, 2019, Frisco Day at the |
|
|
Capitol and extend to the Frisco delegation best wishes for a |
|
|
rewarding and memorable event; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special occasion. |
