SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 372
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Elvira Salinas Cruz, who recently celebrated her 100th |
|
|
birthday; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of great charm and grace, Elvira Cruz is |
|
|
well known for her generosity of spirit, and she is a beloved |
|
|
resident of Raymondville; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She was born February 6, 1919; she and her beloved |
|
|
husband, the late Bartolo Cruz, were married on March 1, 1941, and |
|
|
they had 13 children; she has been blessed with 41 grandchildren, |
|
|
110 great-grandchildren, and 64 great-great-grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cruz was the thread that held together the |
|
|
members of her large family as they traveled across the country |
|
|
for seasonal work in other states, including Washington, Utah, |
|
|
Michigan, and Ohio; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The loving matriarch of the Cruz and Salinas |
|
|
families, she has embodied the spirit of an independent woman |
|
|
while passing on such family traditions as making tortillas from |
|
|
scratch, and her strength and wisdom continue to play an |
|
|
important role in the fabric of life of five generations of her |
|
|
family; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Elvira Cruz has lived through times and experienced |
|
|
events that many people only know from history books, and there is |
|
|
much to be learned from the insights she has gained over the years; |
|
|
a beloved and respected member of her community, she is noted for |
|
|
her warmth, her wit, and her wise counsel, and she inspires those |
|
|
around her with her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to Elvira Salinas Cruz and extend |
|
|
to her best wishes for many happy returns on her 100th birthday; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
