SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 400
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Margarito "Carlos" Guzman, a legendary entertainer, |
|
television host, singer, and actor who is best known for his 1964 |
|
international hit, "Vestida de Blanco"; and |
|
WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman was born February 22, 1940, in |
|
Mission, Texas; he began singing as a child and won first prize at |
|
an amateur-hour competition in the 1950s; he recorded his first |
|
record in 1957 and has continued to record through 2018, amassing |
|
a catalog of 50 albums and numerous singles, including the |
|
Spanish versions of "Crying Time" and "96 Tears," which became a |
|
million-seller in Mexico; and |
|
WHEREAS, An international entertainer, he has performed in |
|
such prestigious venues as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood |
|
Palladium, the Million Dollar Theater in Los Angeles, Bally's Las |
|
Vegas, the Cotton Bowl, Gilley's, and the Alamodome; he also |
|
hosted several television variety shows over the course of 30 |
|
years, including his own show in the early 1990s; as an actor he |
|
has had roles in a Spanish soap opera and in several movies; and |
|
WHEREAS, His musical career includes touring with the |
|
Fabulosos Cuatro and the Tejano Legends, with whom he was |
|
nominated for several Grammy and Latin Grammy awards and won Best |
|
Tejano Album at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001; and |
|
WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman has received many accolades over |
|
the course of his long and illustrious entertainment career, and |
|
the Texas Talent Musicians Association inducted him into its Hall |
|
of Fame in 1993 and honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award |
|
in 2013; Mr. Guzman continues to entertain with his distinctive |
|
voice and style, all the while remaining dedicated to his family, |
|
his music, and his fans; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|
Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Carlos Guzman for his |
|
groundbreaking musical and entertainment career and his many |
|
artistic contributions to this state; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
