SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 682
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Cooper McGough for his civic engagement and his
  commitment to improving his community and his state; and
         WHEREAS, Cooper McGough, who recently celebrated his 11th
  birthday, is a skilled athlete and a straight-A student who
  inspires those around him with his initiative and leadership, his
  humility and concern for others, and the sportsmanship he
  demonstrates in his many athletic pursuits; he has enjoyed great
  success in Math Olympics, and his soccer team won a national
  championship; and
         WHEREAS, He is a fifth grader at Scofield Christian School,
  and when choosing a topic for his science project, he decided to
  focus on saving lives; he had noticed that there has been an
  18-year streak of daily deaths on Texas highways, so for his
  project, he created an awareness campaign using social media and
  the Internet to try to bring that streak to an end; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to raising awareness, his campaign
  provides information about safe driving habits and encourages
  people to commit themselves to keeping Texas roadways safe; and
         WHEREAS, Cooper worked with the Texas Transportation
  Commission and city leaders in Dallas to further his goal, and he
  also created a website where people can join his campaign and
  pledge to follow his five points of action for safer driving:  
  watch your speed, always buckle up, yield and pray, never drive
  drunk, and eliminate distractions; and
         WHEREAS, Cooper McGough is an exemplary young man who is
  alreadyhavingaprofoundimpactonhiscommunity through his
  public-spirited and creative approach to improving traffic
  safety, and it is truly fitting that he receive special
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
  Legislature, hereby commend Cooper McGough on his commitment to
  improving his community and his state and extend to him best
  wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
