SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 701
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Deborah D. Tucker, who has been selected as a 2019
  Women's History Honoree by the National Women's History
  Alliance; and
         WHEREAS, Deborah Tucker was chosen for this prestigious
  award for her exceptional work as an advocate for peace and
  ending violence; her efforts embody the 2019 theme of the
  National Women's History Alliance, which is "Visionary Women,
  Champions of Peace and Nonviolence"; and
         WHEREAS, She began her long and distinguished service in
  the field of nonviolence in 1975, when she became a volunteer
  with the Austin Rape Crisis Center; she went on to serve as
  executive director of the Austin Center for Battered Women, and
  she was later instrumental in the creation of SafePlace, which
  was recognized as a national model for the provision of services
  and advocacy and is now SAFE Alliance; and
         WHEREAS, She cofounded the Texas Council on Family
  Violence in 1978 and has worked closely with the Texas
  Legislature to craft some of the nation's most effective domestic
  violence laws; she coordinated with Senator Joe Biden and groups
  across the country to write and pass the Violence Against Women
  Act of 1994; and
         WHEREAS, She is a cofounder of the National Domestic
  Violence Hotline and the National Center on Domestic and Sexual
  Violence, and she has worked closely with the Department of
  Defense on the Defense Task Force on Domestic Violence; she has
  written numerous articles on the issue of violence and has
  trained countless others to carry on this vital work, and it is
  truly fitting that she receive special recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
  Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Deborah D. Tucker
  on being named a 2019 Women's History Honoree; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
