SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 764

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Bianca Porras, who has been named the 2018 Texas History Day Teacher of the Year--Senior Division by the Texas State Historical Association; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is awarded to history teachers who have been successful in incorporating Texas History Day into their classrooms and school districts; winners in the junior and senior divisions also become the Texas nominees for the MacGregor National History Day Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Bianca Porras is a teacher in the Valentine Independent School District; she has been using the Texas History Day program in her classes for 10 years, and her students have presented notable projects at the regional, state, and national levels; she has also received the Texas State Historical Association's DeBoe Award; and

WHEREAS, Bianca Porras has motivated her students to engage actively in the study of history, and she has helped them to develop invaluable communication and critical thinking skills that will benefit them throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby commend Bianca Porras on her achievements as an educator and extend to her congratulations on being named the 2018 Texas History Day Teacher of the Year--Senior Division; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
