SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 791
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize René Torres for his many years of outstanding service |
|
|
to the communities of the Rio Grande Valley; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, René Torres is a distinguished educator who began |
|
|
his career by serving as a teacher in the Brownsville Independent |
|
|
School District; he went on to serve for many years as an |
|
|
assistant professor at The University of Texas at |
|
|
Brownsville-Texas Southmost College School of Education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He is a graduate of Brownsville High School, where |
|
|
he was a member of the Golden Eagles baseball team that advanced |
|
|
to the Class 4A state championship game; he was inducted, along |
|
|
with several of his teammates, into the Rio Grande Valley Sports |
|
|
Hall of Fame in 2007, and he has written extensively about the |
|
|
history of baseball in the region; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He has served on the boards of trustees of Texas |
|
|
Southmost College and the South Texas Independent School |
|
|
District; he has also been active in a wide variety of civic and |
|
|
philanthropic organizations, including the Brownsville |
|
|
Community Health Clinic and the Esperanza Home for Boys; he is a |
|
|
volunteer at the Historic Brownsville Museum; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Torres has received multiple honors for his |
|
|
work, notably the Jefferson Award for Public Service; it is truly |
|
|
fitting that he receive special recognition for his many |
|
|
achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend René Torres on his many |
|
|
contributions to the fabric of life in the Rio Grande Valley and |
|
|
extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
