SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 791
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize René Torres for his many years of outstanding service
  to the communities of the Rio Grande Valley; and
         WHEREAS, René Torres is a distinguished educator who began
  his career by serving as a teacher in the Brownsville Independent
  School District; he went on to serve for many years as an
  assistant professor at The University of Texas at
  Brownsville-Texas Southmost College School of Education; and
         WHEREAS, He is a graduate of Brownsville High School, where
  he was a member of the Golden Eagles baseball team that advanced
  to the Class 4A state championship game; he was inducted, along
  with several of his teammates, into the Rio Grande Valley Sports
  Hall of Fame in 2007, and he has written extensively about the
  history of baseball in the region; and
         WHEREAS, He has served on the boards of trustees of Texas
  Southmost College and the South Texas Independent School
  District; he has also been active in a wide variety of civic and
  philanthropic organizations, including the Brownsville
  Community Health Clinic and the Esperanza Home for Boys; he is a
  volunteer at the Historic Brownsville Museum; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Torres has received multiple honors for his
  work, notably the Jefferson Award for Public Service; it is truly
  fitting that he receive special recognition for his many
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
  Legislature, hereby commend René Torres on his many
  contributions to the fabric of life in the Rio Grande Valley and
  extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
