SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 814
|
|
WHEREAS, Elaine Mendoza was elected chair of The Texas A&M |
|
University System Board of Regents on May 17, 2019, becoming the |
|
second woman and first Hispanic to serve in that position; and |
|
WHEREAS, Appointed to the board by Governor Rick Perry in |
|
2011, Ms. Mendoza was reappointed six years later by Governor |
|
Greg Abbott; she previously served two terms as vice chair, and |
|
she is serving her fourth term as chair of the Committee on |
|
Academic and Student Affairs; in addition, she is a member of the |
|
Committee on Audit and a liaison to the Texas Higher Education |
|
Coordinating Board, and she also serves as a member of the |
|
University Lands Advisory Board; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Mendoza has brought to the board of regents a |
|
wealth of experience gained on the Texas Higher Education |
|
Coordinating Board, the Commission for a College Ready Texas, and |
|
Governor Perry's Special Commission on 21st Century Colleges and |
|
Universities; at the national level, she chaired the Commission |
|
on the Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, |
|
Engineering and Technology Development; and |
|
WHEREAS, An alumna of Texas A&M, Ms. Mendoza is an admired |
|
leader in the biotechnology industry, and she currently serves as |
|
president and CEO of Conceptual MindWorks, the San Antonio-based |
|
company she founded in 1990; over the years, she has given |
|
generously of her time and talents to promote the expansion of |
|
educational opportunities, health care, and economic growth in |
|
the Alamo City; she has served as chair of the Early Childhood |
|
Education Municipal Development Corporation, as chair of the |
|
board of the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, and as co-chair |
|
of the P16 Council Formation Committee; in 2013, she received the |
|
Outstanding Alumni Award from the Dwight Look College of |
|
Engineering at Texas A&M, and the following year, she was |
|
recognized with the Women's Legacy Award from the Aggie Women |
|
Network; and |
|
WHEREAS, In taking on this new challenge, Elaine Mendoza |
|
has demonstrated a profound commitment to advancing the |
|
important goals of one of the largest systems of higher education |
|
in the nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Elaine Mendoza on her election |
|
as chair of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and |
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Mendoza as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas Senate. |
