IN RE:
HB314 by Howard (Relating to use of compensatory education allotment funding to provide assistance to students at risk of dropping out of school who are pregnant or who are parents and to reporting through the Public Education Information Management System.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would allow the use of compensatory education allotment funding to provide assistance with child care costs and other costs to students who are participating in a life skills program or who are at risk of dropping out of school.
The bill would require the Commissioner of Education to adopt rules to require the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) to include pregnancy as a reason a student withdraws from or otherwise no longer attends public school.
The bill would have no direct fiscal implications for the Foundation School Program.
Based on information provided by the Texas Education Agency, the cost to modify PEIMS to include pregnancy as a reason a student withdraws from or otherwise no longer attends public school is anticipated to be minimal.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. School districts would have the option to use compensatory education allotment funding on child-care services or other services provided through a life skills program.
