FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 13, 2019

TO:
Honorable Robert Nichols, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation

FROM:

Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB333 by Nevárez (Relating to an optional county fee on vehicle registration to be used by a regional mobility authority.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize the imposition of an optional county fee in certain counties.

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), no fiscal impact to the State is anticipated as programming is currently in place to charge a new optional mobility fee for a county in which the fee becomes effective.  There would be no revenue gain to the State.

Local Government Impact

According to DMV, Nueces County would realize an estimated gain in local revenue of $14,049,307 in FYs 2020-2024 should the bill pass.  The county would have no additional costs since counties currently revise their local fees each year and programming is already in place in for annual fee changes in optional county fees.
