No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code relating to designating June as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Awareness Month. The bill would increase awareness to prevent neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) and promote electronic circulation on state and local agency websites of recommended treatment and recovery resources.
The bill would encourage the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to create and update lists of recommended materials to address NAS and collaboration with agencies, hospitals, practices, and providers to increase awareness. The bill would take effect September 1, 2019.
Based on the Legislative Budget Board's analysis of information provided by DSHS and HHSC, any activities undertaken relating to the provisions of the bill can be implemented within existing resources.
