IN RE:
HB535 by Neave (Relating to completion and submission of a financial aid application for costs of higher education as a condition of high school graduation for public school students.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
It is assumed that the provisions of the bill relating to the completion of a financial aid application as a condition of high school graduation could be absorbed using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
The bill would require as a condition of graduation that a student complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA), with certain exceptions. School districts and charter schools could see increased costs related to reviewing and maintaining records on student financial aid applications. There could also be costs associated with developing and making available waiver forms for students who decline or whose parents opt not to complete the financial aid application form.
